The Colorado Rockies All-Star – and one-time Staten Island Little Leaguer – is a big supporter of the kids from the South Shore All-Stars.

The native son even turned up at one of their games last season.

“He was giving us pointers and stuff,” said Angelo Navetta, 13, one of the team’s top pitchers, who will take the ball when the Staten Islanders make their Williamsport debut against Mercer Island, Wash.

“He said that anything is possible … to work hard.”

The right-handed Marquis boasts a storied Little League past – in 1991, he led the South Shore squad into the World Series. Marquis threw a no-hitter, but the team didn’t make it to the title game.

Marquis went on from Staten Island to the major leagues, where he’s pitched for the Braves, Cardinals, Cubs and Rockies.

He also one of the few players to pitch in the Little League and major league World Series, throwing against the Red Sox in the 2004 Fall Classic.

But he’s never forgotten his Staten Island roots.

Ten of the 12 kids on this year’s South Shore team list Marquis as their favorite player, even over hometown heroes like Derek Jeter or David Wright.

“He called the night of our last game,” said coach Glen Morisano. “He told them to have fun and play hard.”

Vincent Quinn, 13, was thrilled by the chance to meet with the big leaguer.

“Being an MLB player is every kid’s dream,” said the pitcher/third baseman.

Mayor Bloomberg and ex-Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina plan to attend the game.

The annual parade before the first tournament game turned into a love fest for New York Thursday.

Shouts of “New York is in the house,” “Go All-Stars,” and even “Go Yankees” bombarded the Staten Island South Shore All-Stars’ float from one end of the spectator-jammed route to the other.

To be fair, some of the love was directed toward Mussina – of nearby Montoursville – who rode ahead of the South Shore squad in a horse-drawn carriage, smiling and waving at the crowd.

“I’ve got goosebumps,” confessed Mike Navetta, Angelo’s dad.

“It’s been always like a dream to get here. This is a once-in-a- lifetime thing,” he said as the team float moved past city hall.

Manager Michael Zaccariello said he wasn’t nervous at all.

“I feel 100 percent confident,” he said. The team has been tested already beating some tough teams, so I think we’re battle- ready.”
