Office 2007 does not demonstrate compliance with OOXML
Word documents generated by the current version of Microsoft Office 2007 with the Office Open XML standard in the development of the International Organization for Standardization, according to tests conducted by a specialist in the standards.
Publication blog last week, Alex Brown, head of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the group responsible for the maintenance of the Office Open XML (OOXML) Standard revealed that Microsoft Office 2007 documents do not meet the latest specifications OOXML draft standard ISO.
“Word documents generated by the current version of Microsoft Office 2007 does not comply with ISO / IEC 29500″, Brown to count blog entry in the review process instrument against “tough” and “transitional” scheme defined in the rule.
Microsoft Office 2007 files OOXML, XML-based format, which was proposed for standardization through the body ECMA industry ISO. After the vote in the strict sense of OOXML as a project of international standard at the beginning of this month, ISO currently controls specification.
Since the changes were made to the ISO ballot resolution meeting, Office 2007 documents with the current regime on the basis of OOXML, known as ISO / IEC 29500, according to Brown.
In a statement to ZDNet UK on Friday, Brown said that, although we hope that Microsoft will update your office, in accordance with the ISO version of OOXML, is not guaranteed.
“The question for the issue for a large part of the current debate OOXML, seems to be: Can Microsoft really trust in ourselves? Let’s see,” said Brown.
Commentators, including Tim Bray, inventor of XML, consider that Microsoft is unlikely that efforts in accordance with the standard OOXML, as it develops within ISO, but Brown was optimistic.
“Given, Microsoft’s proven ability to tinker with the Office XML file format between the packages, I’m hoping that Microsoft Office will soon be brought into line with (ISO / IEC) 29500 specification and will remain so” Says Brown. “Indeed, a powerful incentive for adoption as 29500 ISO / IEC was to deter this type of file format Microsoft carpet acrobatic move in the future.”
Brown added that Microsoft, probably realized that this could have significant economic benefits, a good citizen in the EU rules.
“By working actively to make OOXML standard-informed international help them retain their share office space on the desktop because it eliminates the objections of the Office of the owner, producer, controlled form,” he said.
In the future, Brown hopes to repeat the test of whether open-source alternative to Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, an initiative of Open Source (OSI) version of OpenDocument Format (ODF) document ISO / IEC 26300th
He asked: “Can anyone daring to predict what the result of that exercise?”
