dreamworkIntel Advanced Micro Devices has UpStage DreamWorks Animation. The film studio and decided to go with AMD processors from Intel, citing improved productivity and work plan for a more promising.

DreamWorks specifically mentioned the forthcoming Intel Nehalem Larrabee processor and graphics chips as reasons for change.

Intel and DreamWorks announced Tuesday that they have a strategic alliance for 3D film technology. DreamWorks plans to all its films in stereoscopic 3D – viewers use special glasses to improve 3D – next year. Intel is DreamWorks with “emerging technologies, including future chips with multiple processor cores, the companies said.

It was a blow to AMD. Sunnyvale, California-based chipmaker rolled his quad-core Barcelona last year at the George Lucas “Lucasfilm University in San Francisco to make a comment: Barcelona would be great players in the film industry. But a series of delays in connection with a word processing error, damper on the high expectations of Barcelona.

“AMD has a long and fruitful relationship with DreamWorks Animation, beginning in spring 2005. Earlier this year, AMD and DreamWorks decided not to expand our marketing technologies and communications. However, DreamWorks Animation remains an important and respected customers AMD and we look forward to work with him again in the future, “AMD said in the statement.

In fact, DreamWorks expected on the road, and liked what he saw from Intel better. “If we move towards card Intel, is more in line with our needs,” John dough, president of production for DreamWorks Animation, said in an interview with nanotechnology: blog circuit. “The delivery times have increased because of the complexity and richness of imagery. Then, in the upper layer of 3D. What is now more and more – and duplicate.”

Intel has the most advanced technologies, said dough. “It took a lot more horsepower. The next generation of Intel, the number of kernels will help quench a big upturn in our needs.”

DreamWorks was within three years of cooperation with AMD, said dough.

He explained that Intel is also changing its animation tools DreamWorks. “Our tools of animation, all the property here. Rearchitecting Intel … and our software tools for use by several major and make our highly scalable and make our animation tools, highly scalable.”

DreamWorks, used for businesses as up to 5000 to create clusters of animation and its tools must adapt to a growing number of processor cores, said dough. Nehalem chip, for example, it is expected that the integration of at least eight tubes. Currently, Intel offers no more than four cores on the chip. Larrabee is expected that many tubes to 32.

Dough explicitly mentioned as Nehalem and Larrabee as a reason for the transition to Intel. He said that Larrabee will be “complementary” to general-purpose Intel processors.

Nehalem, due in the fourth quarter of this year and Larrabee is expected in 2009-2010 term.

Intel first DreamWorks release Monsters against foreigners, which is scheduled to hit cinemas in March 2009.
