CONCACAF Gold Cup 2009 Final Result

Mexico scored five unanswered goals to end an 11-game winless streak on U.S. soil with a convincing victory in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup final in front of a sell out crowd at Giants Stadium.
Following a memorable run to the final of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, U.S. head coach Bob Bradley used a group of mainly untested players in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. A successful run en route to the third consecutive Gold Cup final for the U.S. saw seven players earn their first cap and six players score their first goal in a U.S. jersey.
After 55 minutes in which the U.S. held the advantage in play, however, Jamaican referee Courtney Campbell awarded Mexico a penalty kick that shifted the momentum. After Gerardo Torrado’s conversion, the U.S. pushed forward and left the defense exposed as Mexico kept the accelerator to the floor with goals in the 62nd, 67th, 79th and 90th minutes.
The match is the second meeting between the two rivals in a three-week span, as Bradley will call on the first team once again for an Aug. 12 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. More to follow.
