On Thursday at the 138th British Open, 59 year old golf great and senior player Tom Watson shot a 65 to put him near the top of the leaderboard, tied with Ben Curtis and trailing Miguel Angel Jimenez, who birdied the final hole to close with a six-under 64.

After his round, Watson said, “There is something almost spiritual about today.”

Tiger Woods was grouped with Lee Westwood and Japanese teenager Ryo Ishikawa and spent most of his time in the rough though he did manage a few good putts.  He ended day one with a 71.

Day two ended badly for Woods, who missed the cut with a +5.   Tom Watson played superb golf for a second day and ended up tied at the top of the leaderboard with Steve Marino, with both players posting a -5.  Following closely behind at -4 is Mark Calcavecchia.
